You tell me

I saw this great headline in the "letters to the editor" section of my crappy local (Portland) paper:

"Ralph Nader: A Threat or a Has-Been?"

So, you tell me, peeps! Is he swiping Republican votes, make you want to ralph, have a big ego, or a viable campaign?

The comment page is all ears.

PS Perhaps they can get some media attention so I can see more pics of his dorky-cute running mate, SF Mayoral wannabe Matt Gonzalez?

I don't know. I just remember him on Saturday Night Live a long time ago, and talking about rat turds in food and whatnot. haha

Eh, I feel he's skewing it for Obama, which may benefit the republicans again. As jlee said tho, I also remember him on the Ali G show talking about cows' assholes (in terms of harnessing the methane for energy). So yeah, I like a guy with a puerile sense of gross-out humour, but sadly these things don't win elections.

He'd make a good veep tho, if either of them were interested. But that's more a sitcom plot than anything else, no?

he already has a running mate???
the guy is an egotistical loser, and I think you or Foster said it best..."political herpes!!"

Let's just say I think his first name is appropriate. Because him running AGAIN kinda makes me wanna ralph....

I think that if, by running for president, he brings about a change in the way American elections are held, he will be even more of an American hero than he was in the 60's.

People seem to think that a two-party system is the way it needs to be in this country. They're wrong. Caucuses? Primaries? Some sort of unholy alliance of the two? Super delegates? Electoral college? This is so far from a democracy that it's a stretch to even call this country "a democracy".

The answer to the Ralph Dilemma is simple: Instant Runoff Voting (IRV). No spoilers, just plain democracy in action. Until the selection process is changed, the Democrats deserve a Nader in the same way that Republicans deserve a Perot.

Does anyone actually believe that they way our candidates are chosen today is sane???

I think the two party system should change too. With technology advances, we no longer need the current system in place really.

I think "Leftcoast" is Ralph Nader. Sounds like a prepared speech to me. The dems deserve a Nader...yeah, that makes sense. He has nothing new to contribute. Kucinich deserves to be a 3rd party candidate more than this guy. It's all ego and rhetoric.

Oh man! Did I open this one up. Nope, Left Coast is one of my pals...probably the one person who uses the word "fuck" as much as I do :)

Interesting thoughts, posts.

Nader scares me. His theory (back when gas was a buck and change per gallon) that taxes needed to be raised enough to make it 4 or 5 bucks a gallon said a LOT about him as a person. ask yourself if the rich, poor, or middle class are going to be most crippled by a 4 - 5 times increase in transportation costs? and no, public transport is NOT the correct answer when you recall it takes 5 - 10 times as long to get where you need to go. The same people who live where they do because it is all they can afford would be hurt even worse. Nader as a candidate is hardly viable, he will get Eugene Debs levels of votes, and as a viable candidate he would be pure murder. Then again, he WOULD be a true alternative to the dreck we are offered...
