Elks!

I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for over nine years now, but until today, I had never seen an elk. I'm a suburban kid, you know. I've only lived in cities and suburbs.

We drove through two counties to an area out near the coast to an elk reserve. Or preserve. Note to self: is there a difference between reserves and preserves? As in, the wildlife preserves (not jams or jellies?)

I didn't know, for one thing, that they had naked butts.

I wouldn't want to live out there in the middle of BFE, but it was pretty in places.

Nice place if you are an elk, I'm sure.

While out in the middle of not so much, my cell phone, which has signal just about everywhere, had none and I missed a call from a friend in England. Which was unfortunate, but on the whole, it was nice to be somewhere where other people mostly were not, where we were somewhat unreachable.

By the way, for those of you reading this who aren't in the states, today was a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. I didn't play hooky, although I did pretend I had antlers.

but the real question...did you stop by the cheese factory for that super exciting tour where you get to watch them make...wait for it...cheese?

in all seriousness, one weekend we need to go there for their 33 ice cream sample tour!

I'm glad you got to see a lot of naked butts and enjoyed your day off.

I love the pictures, especially the one of you with antlers! Cute!

I hear you, the country is a beautiful and relaxing place, but after an hour, you'd see me going crazy and doing crazy things (like sketching naked elk butts). I'm a city girl. What can I say?

Haha, you're cute with your finger antlers.

We have elks here. Also kiwianis and knights of columbus. Nyuk nyuk.

Hey...what's that, parked smack in the middle of the field? Is it...I think it is! Yes. it is! A shopping cart!

(omg. where is joey? My scramble word is "bling")

A lovely way to spend a holiday! We were open unfortunately.

Did someone mention bling?? :D

Darth: No, but we must go sometime! I've only been once - on my b.day last year - and it was so crowded we ended up going somewhere else for lunch.
Joey: Bwahaha! Who says I enjoyed them? ;)
Ily: It didn't occur to me to sketch them, but I'd probably be reduced to that for entertainment if I lived out there!
FB: There is no shopping cart! Nyuk nyuk is right. Usually when I think Elks, I think the service club.
Lynn: This was the first place I've ever worked that closed for the day, so I feel your pain :)

What a nice way to spend your day off. The closest I've ever come to elk was over the summer when I took my grandparents to play Bingo at the local Elks lodge.

And 2 photos of you in 1 week? Wow!

Riot Kitty said...

A: LOL on both!

At first I thought you were an Elk with those finger antlers but knew you weren't when we couldn't see your naked butt. (A fact that actually surprises me. It would have been like you to moon us.)

The pictures look like England... and Elks should be covering their butts!

cool day off!! nice pics. and thank you so much for your support. you rock!

Riot Kitty said...

GA: I would never moon anyone! If that means I'll never be an elk, well, I will live with it :)
ED: Thanks for stopping by! Maybe they have pants hidden somewhere?
Viva: Hang in there, chica.

Nice pics! I'd love to have a cabin up on the hill in the woods. That's beautiful, all the open space and no crowds of those two legged creatures. Animals are so much easier to get along with....I think they are all liberals.

BTW...Cute finger antlers.

Riot Kitty said...

JLee: I know, they should at least put some clothes on right? LOL!
GE: Thanks! Right with you on animals...much easier than people.

Always a pleasure to go someplace that isn't already crowded. Peaceful.

I suppose there must be a difference between the two. Out here, Sanctuaries and National Parks indicate differing status to the protection accorded them. A National Park is devoid of any human settlement within its boundaries.

I hope to see an elk close-up someday.

Riot Kitty said...

Anil: That status difference makes sense. Here, I think people just make things up :)

I wanna see some elk!!!! So you bonded with elk on MLK day and I visited museums in D.C. Isn't it good to go do the stuff that's right in your backyard that you have been meaning to check out?

You are such a cutie...
I'm not a country girl, love to see the scenery, but if I had my druthers
I'd live in San Diego :D

I love elk. I see them all of the time here in Arizona. What does BFE stand for? Is it Beyond Fucking Egypt?

Grandpa Eddie said...

Pouty, If RK is thinking the same as I it should mean "Bum Fuck Egypt".

Riot Kitty said...

P: I have heard "Bumble Fuck Egypt" and "Bum Fuck Egypt" as GE points out.
