Men in tights

I keep wondering aloud (read: bitching) why they keep remaking superhero movies every few years. I mean, it used to be that you waited the respectable 15 or 20...now not even 10 have to go by.

And today, after watching Man of Steel, and asking Mr. RK, "When does Thor II come out? How about Wolverine?", I answered my own question.

Because idiots like me want to go see them! Show me a movie with a fit man in tights, and I'll drop $10 and go through a bucket of popcorn. Then, chances are, I'll go buy the action figure.*

I'm just a sheep that way, I guess.

I've always liked superhero stuff. As a little kid, I collected action figures instead of dolls. So I played with The Incredible Hulk, Superman, Batman...etc. Stupidly I didn't save the action figures so I bought them again when I grew up.

You're never too old for toys, you know. (And no, that has nothing to do with movies that may have previously been made in my office...)

*Well, let's say a fit man in tights who wants to save the world from hostile aliens/mutants/etc. Otherwise, we just have Richard Simmons.

You know, I bet there's a Richard Simmons action figure out there somewhere with your name on it . . . .

Never too old for toys, never too old for silliness, never too old for fun. Or at least I don't plan to be...

I'm excited for the Deadpool movie. Though I'm really worried that they'll screw it up. :(

Well, all that really matters is, did you enjoy it? I know I probably will never see this NEW Version of "SUPERMAN"...and it sounds like they won't miss my $10 bucks---it has already made a frigging fortune in three days, World Wide....But IF I liked "Action" films I would get the DVD when it comes out.
As a kid growing up, I bought ALL the Comic Books...I had piles of SUPERMAN and BATMAN, all tossed at some point---OY! I would have a fortune from those Original Old Comic Books.....Isn't it sad that my mother tossed them all out??

Love the Flying Cat....LOL!

The comic book thing never really got me, not sure why. Judge Dredd was probably my favourite, but I did not read that much of his stuff either!

Super heroism is all downhill since The Tick was cancelled.

They can remake the Hulk, and Batman, and Superman. I just pray they never remake Richard Simmons.

It's a real shame you didn't save all those action figures from your childhood. Wowzer.....you'd be loaded.

I haven't made it to the movie yet but I, too like superhero stuff so I plan on it. The trailer implies that Henry Cavill wears his tight well.

I know you don't watch television but there's an episode of Seinfeld you should see where he dates a girl for her vintage toy collection.

Debra: That actually might be pretty cool, in a weird way.
EC: Agreed!
GT: Lurk! Hope it makes you laugh!
DW: I haven't heard of that?
Naomi: I thought it was OK, Mr. RK thought it was good. I thought the "let's fight and blow everything up" scenes lasted about half an hour too long.
RC: I never read those or saw the movie, how did the movie compare?
WIGSF: Agreed. Mr. RK loved that show. I got him the tiny action figure.
ABFTS: Good point! But everything else from the 1980s has been recycled, so you never know.
Cheryl: My mother gave them away - along with my brother's first edition Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. Ah, the agony.
GA: That sounds pretty funny!

Richard Simmons would make a great superhero. He could fight Captain Caloric Intake.

I type as a woman who's most excited for Despicable Me 2....you have to love entertainment!

I was really getting into the imagery here, until that last sentence.

Wi: I'm sure somewhere, someone suggested that back when he was a hot commodity.
Claire: me too!
Abby: Sorry about that ;)

Can't say I've ever been into men (or women) in tights.

I like Superhero graphics but not the superheroes. :D

There is no denying it...we all enjoy our fantasies!

I love the "Iron Man" series...but then I love anything with Robert Downey Jnr in it! I think he's great.

This latest Superman outing has him minus his outer-wear I learned the other day! No cheeky red underpants worn over his tights!!

Tsk! Tsk! What is the world coming to?? ;)

Joey: Spoken like a true artist...If I could draw at all, I might feel the same way.
Lee: Agreed on all counts ;)

I have never cared for the superhero films, not sure why. I only ever saw the first Batman film and that was enough for me (although I kind of liked Michael Keaton in that roll.) :)

Charles Gramlich said...

Yep, I'm getting real tired of the superhero reboots.

Riot Kitty said...

Lynn: That one sucked, IMHO, although I liked Michael Keaton, too.
Charles: So am I, but I still can't stop going to see them. There's probably a support group out there for people like me.

i, too, like superhero stuff/movies.
for me, watching a superhero movie is a great chance to relax...i think it's because most superheroes serve as a hope-inspiring figure.
i love the iron man series, too.

great post!

big hugs!
