The haters have too much time on their hands

I love it how far-left or far-right groups choose nitpicky ridiculous shit to protest - 'cause it's far easier to do than actual do-gooding, like serving meals, spending time with a hopice patient, or volunteering your time somewhere.

Apparently there is an online group that had no problem when "Dancing with the Stars" (which I have never seen, btw, since I don't watch TV) has paraded stars whose pasts included posing for girly mags or making sex tapes - but OH MY! - they have their knickers in knots when a transgender man is a contestant on the show.

Personally, I don't give a shit who's on that show, and I think it takes a hell of a lot of guts to transition. Chaz Bono has not only transitioned, but he has done it publicly, as a role model and inspiration to a population that has one of the highest rates of suicides, suicide attempts, and survivors of sexual assault - way disproportionate compared to most of the population.

Onemillionmoms.com should think about how they'd feel if their children came out as trans. Would they still spread so much hate?

In the meantime...find something better to do. Protest the number of children that go to bed hungry in this country every night, for starters.

Totally with you. All too often campaigners of this ilk are keen to focus on random issues which they seem to pick on a whim half of the time, rather than actually rolling up their sleeves and helping with big issues which actually need to be dealt with (child poverty being one of those, good call).

PS I also went to OMM and used their 'send a letter protesting' function to send an email supporting the producers and cast instead...

Your post title said it all!! (And as we protest "haters" we have to be careful that our protest doesn't make us one.)

These groups find silly things to complain about because its those silly things they can actually do something about. They can't feed the poor or create world peace. Those goals are impossible. But getting a queer off the television is attainable.

Ummm...yah.

Honestly, I don't watch the show, but my family does, so I really don't care who's on or who isn't.

Having said that, about the only other thing I can offer for an opinion about this particular issue is (apologies for the language I'm about to use) this particular phrase geared to all the yahoos having a hissy fit.

WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION? DID YOUR MOMMY AND DADDY DROP YOU ON YOUR HEAD WHEN THEY EXPRESSED SHOCK AND DISMAY OVER SEEING THEIR FIRST TRANSGENDERED PERSON?! GROW THE FUCK UP.

Gay hating is SO not okay. I wish I could be brave enough to put the "this blog supports gay marriage" button on my blog, but I'm not. Partly because I'm terrified of my parents kicking me out of the house if they found out that I'm pro-gay.

As a transman myself I've heard and seen it all. Nothing surprises me when it comes to the hatred transgendered people suffer. I experience it nearly every day.

Lemons Don't Make lemonade, I just wanted to say that being gay and transgender are different things. People often confuse gender identity and sexuality.

To me it seems these people are bored and don't have anything worth fighting for in their lives so they take up random things to protest just so they don't feel void of any existential value.

I am so shocked that people have such a problem with Chaz Bono being on the show when NANCY GRACE will also be on the show ! I can't stand her. I'd be boycotting her off !

Well said my friend. I couldn't agree with you more. Some people need a life. I have to applaud Chaz for being so strong and classy throughout what he has gone through. I wish him the very best.

Glad you're all with me on that one ;)
Claire, good for you!
Joey: I am so sorry. I wish society would just grow up.
G: I thought it, you typed it!

Well said, my friend. I admire Chaz for being on the show, which I totally watch. And yes, if the haters put their energy into something like hunger - just think what they could do.

Lynn: Thanks. And I agree.

I hope it's clear that my negavitity in my last post was towards Nancy Grace and NOT Chaz Bono.
