My house during the holidays

Once again, I will reiterate here (and to anyone who will listen) that one of the lovely things about being an adult (not to say a grownup) is that I don't have to spend time on holidays with people I don't want to see.
To wit:
  •  We don't wait to eat dessert until the powers that be say so, because we *are* the powers that be! Hooray!
  •  I don't have to eat anything I don't like "to be polite," because Mr. RK and I fucking cook it. It's impolite, methinks, to force someone to eat something they don't care for. Period. End of story.
  •  Friends are so much better than extended family. One of mine made me a vegan, sugar-free cheesecake, so I actually got to eat dessert!
  •  I don't get bored because it's my fucking house, and the people who are there were all invited by me
Mr. RK scared the shit out of me, though. He said, "My (insert relative here) texted to say Happy Thanksgiving. So I invited her over."

Dead silence.

"Just kidding!"

Because he wants to stay married, that's why.

I love it.
And I hope that vegan sugar-free cheesecake becomes a tradition.

Good reason to whack him upside the head with a turkey leg. I'm with you where company is concerned and the best company is the kind that goes elsewhere.

Mine was pretty decent. I played Uncle Social and spent some time catching up with a cousin I haven't seen in several years.

Phew! Mr RK likes to live dangerously, I see.

"To wit"....I've not heard that term in years and years...not since I stopped working in legal offices (as in law firms...not as in office that are legal as against being illegal...that is to say, namely...if you know what I mean)!

Hahahaha, so true!
Hope you had a really good holiday - roll on Christmas and a holiday that I actually celebrate!

Totally agree with your wits. You shouldn't have to eat the stuff/crap you don't like, spend time with people you don't tolerate, and do you own thing because it's your damn house.

Mr RK is my kind of guy. That kind of comment around here would get me stabbed with a dessert fork...

Oh I thought these holidays were all about spending the day with the people that you like least in this world, and then the rest of the year is spent avoiding them?

Yes, yes, yes. I spent all of Thanksgiving cooking, and I also ate cheesecake for breakfast. Why? Because I was the cook, and I could do whatever I want. Being an adult rocks (sometimes).

I always sort of wish I could coordinate the food at Thanksgiving more than I do, but it seems to work out just fine.

I'm glad you had a fun Thanksgiving and that relative you refer to wasn't present. :)

Ha! Sounds like our Thanksgiving! I never had to spend time at stuffy holiday "functions" when I was a kid. My dad told us that HE had to and how badly it sucked, so he wasn't about to do that to his kids. I've carried on the tradition!

You and Mr. RK are welcome at our house.

Hear hear! Yes, you shouldn't eat what you don't want to eat. And you shouldn't bring it if no one eats it. There's a reason that there's leftover jello salad every year!

RK you always make my day when I visit here! Years ago I stopped a holiday visitation that made me miserable and I have been much happier for it!
