Fighting the oobleck

I didn't plan this long of an absence from blogs - I've been under the weather. Where the fuck does that expression come from, anyway? It feels more like being under the oobleck - as in this:

Dr. Seuss made up a lot of words, but I think that one may be my favorite, because it so accurately describes that very special feeling of being sick. Monday afternoon, my boss said he was "going home to rest" after traveling for business this past weekend. Tuesday morning, the oobleck (his? Mine? Who knows?) attacked us both.

Then, to add insult to injury, once you finally outrun the oobleck, you get hit by the tired stick.

Then, back at work, everything makes you grumpy.
My poor coworker and I had this conversation.

Me: "I thought you went through the mail when I was gone! But it's in a pile on my desk!"
Coworker (with blank stare): "I didn't have a chance."

Me later that day: "Sorry, I'm sick and grumpy."

Which, at least, is one more excuse than normal!

What makes you get your grump on?

Fatigue is what makes me grumpy. Also, one of my teeth abscessed and I just had a root canal done yesterday. Yay!

Fatigue makes me grumpy too. When I am so tired I feel sick and then get a really good dose of insomnia to go with it then anything and everything turns me into the psycho bitch from hell.
I hope you are coming out the other side.

Oooh, bleccch! Sorry you were sick, but glad you're back among the living!

Tedious paperwork makes me grumpy, like the tedious paperwork I'm avoiding now.

Tiredness. Hunger. Loneliness.

I hope you escape the oobleck soon.

Being tired makes me grumpy, especially when I'm trying to wake myself up and someone is chirp chirp chirping away about anything and everything. I find myself angrily wishing every possible oobleck in the world upon them.

Everything makes me grumpy nowadays. I've turned into a grumpy old man. I'm sorry you've been unwell, I'm glad you are feeling better now.

And I totally agree with Grumpy Cat, I wish there was a spray repellent for my mother.

What's getting my grump on? Not getting enough sleep or having to do too many things in one day.

Being hungry.
Running late.

Hope you feel better!

People make me grumpy. Especially those really annoying, always upbeat, obscenely positive ones. Makes me want to rip their arm off and beat them with it.

That and:
- Being late
- Not appreciating peoples' sacrifices or experience
- Jumping to a conclusion before the problem is understood

Oh, and putting out Christmas decorations while it is still in October....

Last week a student of mine asked me where under the weather comes from. I said, "Do I look like someone who knows?" Everything makes you grumpy? How is THAT a bad thing? (Except when it happens at work, of course...)

What makes me get my grrrrrrump on? People in charge who know shit. Well, you asked.

Hope you're feeling better now.

Oh my goodness. What does NOT make me grumpy? Especially that special time of the month. But let's not go there. I'll give you an example of something though. Today I went to Bed Bath and Beyond. I have oodles of gift cards I've been collecting and I thought it's time to spend it.

First of all, it was raining.

Second of all, its the last weekend before Christmas. So the store was PACKED. I circled the store once, and felt THAT horrible feeling creeping up. That grumpiness.

Like GET OUTTA MY WAY kind of grumpy.

WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU THINK YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD WALKING THIS AISLE?

MUST YOU STINK?!

EXCUSE ME, DO YOU MIND?!!! PLEASE MOVE!!!!

By the time I completed my second lap around the store, I was maxed out on anxiety and suppression. I just HAD to get outta there. Without buying anything!!!
