Dr. What?

OK, I am stunned. Shocked. Amazed. (And yes, a geek.)
I had no idea this was coming.

And here is a ninja lunch break edit:  Mike D waxes poetic on this, along with some awesome movie reviews, today.

We've been texting about it. It was THE topic getting coffee today. It would have come up at work with my volunteer, but I was super busy and it slipped my mind.

No, we're not geeks or anything...

Mr. RK thinks he'll be a good one. I'm on the fence, because...

1. OK, I have a marketing background. In the new (since 2005) series BBC has had some serious success, in part because they are marketing Dr. Who as Dr. Hot. I'm not agist - not saying a middle-aged man can't be hot - but he's not David Tennant. Or Matt Smith. You get the picture. And I CANNOT FATHOM him with a 20-something companion swooning up at him, because, well, yuck, that's Daddy.

I'm not the only girl in America (or the universe) who is now convinced that to be a good Dr. Who, I have to be able to picture getting into his...mind. Sorry, Christopher Ecceleston ruined it for me. I didn't feel this way watching reruns back in the day. But you bring in Mr. Sexy Alien, you should stick with it.

2. The only roles I have seen him (we will only refer to him as "this new guy" in this post) in, except for one, he has played a bit of an obsessed weirdo. This, says Mr. RK, is why he'll be a good #12.

3. Do I have to have a third reason? My blog, my rules.

For those of you who follow this, what's your take?
And in completely different geeky news, I'm sure that Sanrio has NO CLUE how awesome this is:
Hello Kitty can has cheezburger!

I've never been a follower or big fan of Dr. Who (Okay! I know! I should wash my mouth out for making this declaration!)...but...I did watch the good old Doc when David Tennant played him. I don't what it is about David Tennant...let's face it, he's not what you'd call "handsome"...but I do like him very much. I will watch just about anything with him in it.

Presently, on Friday nights down here Down Under a series is showing on our ABC channel..."Broadchurch" and Tennant stars in it. And...it's a good show.

New Doctor dude has been in an episode of Doctor Who along with a heavily-made up Amy Pond--the Pompeii one!!

I've never seen that show, but I sure hear a lot about it. My friend Whitney just posted something about her Dr. Who obsession on facebook. >>"My Doctor Who obsession has reached worrying levels. I drove by a blue port-o-potty today and my first thought was, "The T.A.R.D.I.S.!">>

Well, what about Patrick Stewart playing Jean-Luc Picard? He had quite an enamored following and he was a middle-aged bald guy. Maybe this new Dr. Who will surprise you!

Oh my gawd...I am an idiot. I know zilch about Dr. Who. Less than zilch really...Nothing with a capital N.

Knowing absolutely nothing about Dr. Who, I'm afraid I can't comment intelligibly.

Ah, well, even if you haven't seen it, feel free to comment! I'm late to the party. I watched re-runs with Tom Baker and then didn't see it again until last year. Then Mr. RK and I promptly became addicts.
Mike: He was in Torchwood too.
Debra: Interesting point! But he's got this kind of suave about him (Stewart.)

And Lynn, the TARDIS bathroom comment totally cracked me up!

My oldest watches Dr. Who, and all I know about it is what I hear from him. I don't think he's got the same criterion for the new guy that you do.

Yeah, they're talking about this a lot on FB as well.

As for me, about the only time I've paid attention to Dr. Who was when Tom Baker was on, it is what it is.

I'm going to have to reconcile the role he played in Torchwood with him being 12. He was great in Torchwood, but it was such a heavy, angsty role.

After David Tennant left, Dr. Who was ruined for me. I never could get over Matt Smith and his rubbery looking face (sorry)and the plots got so weirdly confusing I couldn't keep track of what the heck was going on so I just stopped watching it. Just looked up the new actor, nope nothing there to entice me to watch again!

I wanted the new Dr Who to be female, black and gay. Then maybe I'd watch it.

Another reminder that I should start watching Dr. Who.

Maybe later.

I am an assumed and proud Nerd. There is nothing wrong with being geek hehehe but I have to say I have not watched Dr. Who yet...

Riot Kitty said...

GB: I watched those with my dad when I was a tiny kid!
Kellie: He has played a lot of those...
CC: LOL! Rubbery looking...he's a bit pale for sure.
Joey: That would be cool. It's about time The Dr. was something other than a white guy.
DW: Yep!
IA: If you are a proud nerd, you need to tune in ;)

Abby! Sorry I didn't see your comment. Yes, different criteria ;)

I'm on the fence. Regardless, I just hope he's not rocking that horrible Don Quixote facial hair I keep seeing in promo pictures of him.

ABFTS: I know!! That has GOT to go.

I thought I'd left an absolutely brilliant commentary about Dr. Who on this post, but it must have been one of those conversations I have in my head with myself that never actually materialize into print...that being said, you worked Dr. Who and Hello Kitty into one post, so now you are my hero: deal with it. ;)

Riot Kitty said...

Kathleen: I can deal! Thank you! :)
