Art

I grew up with a dad who loved art. He still loves art, and is also incredibly knowledgeable about it.

Recently he repainted and decorated every room of their house - just using the art they already owned - and it turns out he is rather artistic himself. I kid you not - every room looks like it's straight out of Architectural Digest.

Anyhow, I am headed down to California for a few days to see them, so I won't be online as much, but I'll be back next weekend and hope to catch up...I might take some photos of their house to show you my dad's handiwork. (Of course, now that it's no longer hotter than fuck, I leave for vacation...timing is everything.)

In the meantime, I got to thinking about art because I offered to do some hand-painted frames to donate for a fundraiser for my friend's nonprofit. I asked Mr. RK to take some pics of a few I had already done, since he's quite handy with the camera, so I could show her what they could look like.

Of course he totally showed me up by tinkering with the photographs inside the frames...

Me, my dad and my two brothers in 1999 or 2000, in cartoon form.

I wish I had more artistic talent! I have a good eye for color, so I can take good flower pictures and paint abstractly, but wouldn't dare try drawing a circle round.

How about you? Is there a talent you wish you had?

I wish I learned to play guitar when I had the opportunity in grade school. That way, I could have got laid in high school.

I wish I could paint or draw worth a damn. At least I can recognize beautiful things that others (or Ma Nature!) created and capture it through my camera lens.

Love, love, love Art! My girls are taking a pottery class this summer that I wish was offered to adults too. So much fun!

Have a great time with your fam!

Wow, nice frames, Chica!! I especially like that last one.

A special talent I wish I had...speaking more European languages.

Have a great trip! ¡Besos a tu papi!

Love the frames. If there's one talent I wish I had, it would be... oh wait, what I'm thinking of isn't a talent as much as a superpower to shoot laser beams out of my eyes at every idiot I come into contact with. Then again, the population would be cut in half... at least. Um, so let's go for the talent to sing... or something of that sort.

WIGSF: Hate to say it, but you are probably right.
A: You are a great photographer!
Ily: Thanks! I'll paint you one if you like. You and I can practice Italian quizas?
PM: LMAO! Perfect!

Those frames are beautiful and that makes you artistic. I would love to see the photos of your dad's house - I hope you have a great time and that it is not too hot.

I wish I could play a musical instrument, but I tried and it just didn't work out. :)

I like you in cubist form. I always kind of assumed you were both that way anyway, so I'm down with it lol.

The frames are ELEGANT! Need I say more?

A talent I wish I had...I think the talents I have are the only ones I really want.

So cool there :) Have fun in California and bonding with your Dad too.

I wish I can play some kind of musical instrument though now that I hear my elder daughter played the piano all the time....so soothing on a stressful day for me :)

I love the idea of hand painting frames. I sometimes do the mats around drawings in frames, but hardly ever did the frames.

I always wanted to play the cello. I took lessons but I really had no talent for it...really...lol

Enjoy your trip. You're such a jet-setter! I'm jeal!

I wish I could write fiction, I just posted that in a comment to another blogger a few minutes ago then hit you up and figured your question fit that answer.

I don't know if this fits in the category of talent but I've always wanted to be a boxer. I don't mean dog I mean prize fighter boxing in the ring. True.

These are awesome!

I wish that I could draw or paint. But, I have no talent. None.
