Thoughts for Friday

I still have (barely) all of my hairs in place, but there are still 9 days to go before the event is done.
Mind you, there was a serious snafu yesterday because until we did some major wrangling, due to a morning event the same day as my afternoon event changing their run course and not telling us, we almost didn't have access (except on foot) to our site.

And believe it or not, I was told that the $1,500 permit we spent a lot of time and money getting doesn't guarantee that we can park anywhere near our site, let alone have delivery trucks bringing equipment, water, etc., come in and out. Even though we are renting the site and are supposed to have access to it.

Um. Access means access by ... foot? Pogo stick? We worked out a compromise and everyone from the competing event bent over backwards to kiss my ass, and because I get to meet them all next week, they get to do it in person!

Same day, meeting at the state's largest paper with a volunteer who I normally want to throttle on a good day. Walking out, the editor apologized for something, and said, "It's just been crazy."

Then she froze. "Sorry! I didn't mean..."

And I just smiled and said, "Don't worry! I OWN that word!"

Speaking of things being nuts (and not just me), it is starting to feel like there just literally aren't enough hours in the day. I don't know why this is. I only have one job, one spouse, and two cats. No kids or extra husbands running around in the background.

I texted a friend tonight, "Why is there always so much more shit to do? Bank, groceries, cook, laundry, workout."

He is about my dad's age and wrote back, "Wait until you're older and everything takes twice as long. Why do you think I want to fuck all the time?"

My god, what woman could handle more than one husband. Whenever my husband makes a comment about me getting a boyfriend I let him he is more than I can handle.

Take a big breath! This too shall pass and you might not have to kill anyone!

And if perchance you do have to kill anyone I am happy to be your alibi. You were with me the whole time. I recently told my partner that if he was found dead under suspicious circumstances I had three separate people who had promised to give me an alibi. Bless him, he laughed.

There aren't enough hours in the day. Which is why some people "create more hours" by sleeping less.

Look up sleep cycles like the Uberman one. Absolutely crazy BUT you get 22 hours in a day to work now.

I am old. I am so old that when my sweet grandson moaned about all his responsibility of work and school I pulled the "walking uphill in the snow carrying my cello on my back". Only mine was, "I was a single parent rising from the ashes of a bad marriage, with two small children in tow, yet I managed long hours for career plus continued education and church and volunteer programs, etc., blah, blah, blah...." He didn't give a rip. Do you?

Yes looking after everyone is exhausting. ;) My answer is that I just don't sleep much. :D

Good luck!!

I have items on my "to do" list which have literally been on it for 20 years. 20 YEARS. Maybe one of these days I'll have time to do them. But realistically, they will have to wait until I'm retired.

I think when you are in the final couple miles of your destination---as you are now---there IS actually more to do, and less time to do it in.....Have faith, my dear.....You WILL get through this and your Event will be Wonderful.....I know, I know...I sound like Rose Colored Glasses Pollyanna----but, it will be GREAT! All your hard work will pay off----And then, you can sleep some!

I love that picture of the darling cat with his face up against the wall....LOL! A comforting place to be, sometimes.....

I'm exhausted reading about that - they are lucky to have you!

I echo EC...I'll volunteer to be an alibi for you also, if and when you need it.

It might have to be on condition, though...condition that you promise to be mine also! ;)

Birdie: I know, right?! We already have our hands full.
EC: Excellent plan!
DW: That just sounds scary. But I wish I could do it.
GA: Yes I do! You know I admire you. Although I thought it was a violin? :)
Joey: Wish I could pull that off, but then I'm not functional.
Debra: OK, I feel better now.
Naomi: Thank you!!
Lynn: That's very nice of you!
Lee: I'm in.

I ask that same question quite often. Why is there always so much shit to do? I wish I had an answer, and a solution.

Riot Kitty said...

Charles: If and when you do, let me know!

Perhaps a little Black Sabbath is in order?

The song "Mob Rules" comes to mind, as I think you need that kind of mentality in order to deal with all of the shit that seems to be sticking to you as of late.

About that whole time thing - I have one spouse, four dogs, and one cat, with technically no job, and there still aren't enough hours in the day. I'm busier now that I'm an unemployed writer than I ever was working 60 hours a week as an IT monkey. So if we could extend days from 24 hours to about 36, that would be great. I have a lot of work to catch up on.

hahaha your friend is amazing... I always try and cut things off my list. My sleep is sacred so I will never skimp on that.

GB: Yeah, right about now, it's sort of like "Flying High Again." :)
RC: I will check that out.
ABFTS: Seriously. That sounds about right.
IA: Agreed!
