Things I like Thursday

I like it when people are funny and irreverent. Mind you, I'm not going to start cracking jokes at a funeral, but I have no use for stuffy formality.

We have a new volunteer at my office. I didn't really know what his skills were, and he wasn't sure what he wanted to do, but we chatted and I knew he would be a good addition to my office because he has a great sense of humor. As it turns out, he has mad IT skills and is a fast learner. He said he already feels like he's a part of the crew, and that has made him really dive in and do great work.

I especially love unexpected humor. Like this e-mail that I got from my cell phone carrier, when I was inquiring about why the new phone I want is available for new customers and not current ones.

So, we had a sudden run on the Nexus and ended up with alarmingly low stock.  Meanwhile we had just sent a mailer out to our prospects offering it, and everybody was biting their nails over whether or not we would have enough to fill the orders...so we snatched it down from the member services site in hopes we would not sell out too quickly.

But I still have some.  And you can have one if you want it.

Success! That's another thing I like: getting what I want. That is another post altogether. What have you been wanting lately?

Talent. I have just been on another blog and she put a post up about talent. And I want some. Drumming my heels and screaming. When do I want it? Several years ago.

What I want is either a job doing what I do where I can be greater appreciated and learn more skills to become upwardly mobile...or a job where I can make more money and be left alone to my own devices.

My "wants" far exceed my "haves" at this time and they all pertain to health. (Most of those "wants" cannot be achieved for me or for my spouse unless we can turn back our age clocks about 30 years...)

It is amazing that you got the phone you wanted and also an obvious email from a real person and not a robot.

That's great that you got the phone - sometimes you just have to ask.

It just doesn't seem right to have Julie Andrews and the word "fuck" in the same picture. tsk tsk tsk

What I want is stupid, I know, but I want a sandwich. If I could just get rid of my allergy to gluten, my tummy would be so happy. I've tried gluten-free bread, and it's just awful.

EC: You do have talent. It's on your blog!
J: Sigh. I understand!
C: Yes! Kittehs are the best! Send me pictures when you get some!
G: I think we all want that second one. I hope your book sells billions of copies!
GA: Sending you lots of good thoughts on the health stuff. And yeah, I was amazed. It is a nonprofit phone company. He said if he made someone laugh, he earned his money that day.
L: I am the queen of ask. My contract was up for renewal ;)
D: Yep, that's why I loved it ;)
WD: Yeah, I hear you. I work for a nonprofit!
C: There's something to be said for complte. Right? :)

First of all that Sound of Music image is hilarious!

Secondly, I love when we get what we want and customer service doesn't suck! I want an iphone like everyone else on the planet so I can google everything without breaking out with a huge iPad all the time!

S: I thought so too! I am finally giving in and getting a smart phone, which I am sure I will bitch about here, since I am constitutionally unable to deal with touchscreen phones.

N: I totally forgot to respond! Sorry, that sucks. I have food allergies too.
