Surfacing to say...

Go buy this book! My friends over at A Beer for the Shower have been kind enough to check in on me throughout all of my symptomatic shit, even though they are busy as fuck with their new release, and so I am sending a big hug towards Colorado. (Did I swear enough in that sentence? I fucking hope so.)

Humor is how I get through the day, and it probably saved my life these past few months. And I don't think I know anyone funnier than these two. So, Marvin K. Mooney, will you please go now? Go buy this e-book and they'll send you a signed copy free of charge, because apparently they don't want to make any money. (Hint: you can always buy the Kindle version and offer to pay them for the hard copy.) At $2.99, it's cheaper than a trip to Starbucks, unless you're one of these people who waltz in there and ask for a venti iced water with light ice. (Yes, I have seen people do this.)

I hadn't planned an extended absence but between getting divorced and my grandmother's cancer, my brain kind of went splat. I'm feeling much more like myself this past week. I found a great therapist who took one look at my intake form and said, "Wow, there's a lot of mental illness in your family, isn't there?"

Nothing like validation!

Fortunately, one of the things I live with is OCD, which, no joke, allows for great organizational skills. It allowed me to pull off an event like this without an assistant, during a week I was debating a trip to the hospital.
Seriously, thanks to all of you who have been checking in on me during my time of hermiting and licking my wounds. If you or anyone you know needs help, please reach out. Help is available.
It does get better.

Q. What's worse than having a brain that goes splat?
A. Having a family full of people whose brain goes splat.

(I know that feel)

Thank you, truly, for giving dear Tuck a shout out. Poor boy needs all the help he can get, and I really do hope you enjoy his story. It's way funnier than a diet iced water zero with lite ice.

Drat you and thank you. I need another book the way I need another twenty five pounds of fat.
And yay for coming out the other side.

Having a sense of humour and taking regular doses of it is the best medicine of all, RK. And you do have a wonderful sense of humour...don't ever lose it; keep sharing it...you won't run out. If you do just let us know, and we'll return some of it to you. :)

As for swearing...Shit! I swear, you're talking to the non-converted here! Good to see you. :)

Having a great therapist is the ticket, I think. So glad you have surfaced! Hugs.

Great to see you popping into the blog world today. Everyone needs a break from reality, and what better way to do it than to step into a reality where time has no meaning (whoops, getting Twilight Zone-ish there).

I think deep down, everyone has a form of OCD floating around. I'm pretty sure I got a mild form, as I function quite well in the organized chaos that is called work.

I always love to see your name pop up in my feed reader. AND I am not sure there are enough swear words available to compensate for how much crap you've had to endure as of late. Still I continue to wish the best for you.

I, totally agree with you about how funny Bryan and Brandon are. Hope you get a lot of laughs from their book and all other available sources. Seems like humor helps during bad times. Hope to hear more from you really soon.

RK! I have been woefully remiss in my Blogging Duties, but you all are never far from my mind (usually I'm thinking: "SHIT! I really need to get my SHITTY SHIT together and read some blogs").

Sorry you've been having a rough time. Hang in there!

I was WONDERING where/how you were! Glad you checked in, geesh!
The book sounds like fun. A family of mental illness, not so much.

Dear Riot Kitty, sorry I haven't been regular over here and so very sorry that you are going through such a rough time. I hope that you will be blessed with better times ahead and more important with good friends now.

Hi Riot Kitty,

Wow and such tough, emotional times for you, my friend. For what it's worth, there are parts of your post that I truly empathise with.

There's a lot of mental illness in a lot of families. I also know that our mental illness is only a small part of who we are.

Having worked in the mental health field and being mentally ill, I know that it's a positive therapy that you verbalised your valid feelings. Yes, find as many resources as you can that are conducive to your own mental health well being. The stigma is slowly being eradicated.

Thank you for a powerful, emotive post.

Practicing OCD is how I stay sane. Being a hostage of OCD is how I drive myself nuts. Having phobias has kept me alive. Having phobias has kept me from enjoying life. Being depressed has kept me from seeing the good side of things. Being depressed has kept me on an even keel. Lacking hope is a terrible way to live. Lacking hope keeps me from hitting the ditch when it doesn't work out.

This is about as happy as I get.
